Introduction
Welcome to this Training Course on Humanitarian Interpreting offered by Translators without Borders.
This course is divided into eight sections:
Dos and don'ts for humanitarian interpreters and cultural mediators
Role plays for humanitarian interpreters and cultural mediators
There is also the Test Yourself! section with a quiz to assess what you have learnt throughout the course.
This course gives you an understanding of TWB, the role played by language professionals during humanitarian crises, the difference between interpreters and cultural mediators, what the tasks of interpretation and cultural mediation entail, and how to approach them. It is not exhaustive and is not intended to replace the more in-depth and in-person training that is recommended for anyone working with language for humanitarian response
The course duration is approximately 6 hours, but you can take a break and come back later if you wish to do so. To complete the course, you need to create a Moodle account. This electronic training was created with funding from the Mixed Migration Platform (MMP) supported by the United Kingdom's Department for International Development (DFID).
